Masterton Strays

As the family trees grow, the number of unallocated Mastertons diminishes. Finding homes for these strays in one of the established trees is always a very satisfying breakthrough. The following lists contain some of the Masterton strays who appear in indices of the records, but are not yet allocated (and paying for all of the certificates would be rather expensive!). Any information on where these individuals might belong would be warmly received. Sometimes, the reason why births have not been allocated to trees is that the child died in infancy and never appeared on a Census. Some of those most likely associations from the Index of Deaths deduced from age at year of death are noted in the final column.

This page has also become something of a reminder of undeveloped potential. These infant deaths have no further contribution to subsequent generations but they were loved and grieved. Many more examples of those who have been positively identified sit within the family trees. It is difficult for us to empathise with times where infant mortality rates were much higher than today's, but the infant deaths listed below gives pause for thought. Parents in the past were quite familiar with the grief of burying a child.

Scottish Statutory Register Births

1855-1907

There are 1308 registered Masterton births between 1855 and 1907. 1268 of those have been allocated to one of the named Family Trees on this site. This list of 51 not yet allocated includes 39 statutory Births from that period, mostly infant deaths, plus 12 between 1908 and 2006 that can be deduced to be infant deaths, and of secondary impact in building family networks. However, experience shows that many of these remaining "strays" may prove to be Mastersons that have been incorrectly indexed as Masterton in scotlandspeople.
