William Nevay Masterton (1843-1885)

William Nevay Masterton (1843-1885)

Solicitor

William Masterton, solicitor, was born in Forfar and practised in George Street, Edinburgh. Sadly he died suddenly in the prime of life at the age of 42 of the illness erysipelas, a contagious disease known since the Middle Ages. It is caused by various streptococci bacteria, which infect the skin and spread through the lymph system. The incidence of erysipelas among humans has declined, probably due to improved sanitation and the use of antibiotics.

Genealogy

William Nevay Masterton was the third child and second son of the family of ten born to Thomas Masterton, tinsmith, and Elizabeth Nevay, who had married in 1838 in Forfar. William Nevay Masterton belongs to the large group that flourished in the Forfar area. He married Agnes Sturrock in 1865 in Forfar and had nine children. Fuller details of his extended family can be found at this link.
