Killed by a bicycle

Margaret Ann Masterton was born in Liverpool, England, and she and her sisters moved to Newburgh to live with their grandparents after their mother died. Margaret Ann died in 1936 at the age of 70 as a result of injuries sustained from being run down by a pedal cycle in Edinburgh - which must be a relatively rare cause of death. Her date of death, 15th December, was the 40th anniversary of her marriage.

Genealogy

Margaret Ann Masterton was the third of four daughters born to John Spence Masterton, seaman, and Ann Tyrer, who had married in West Derby, Liverpool, England in first quarter of 1858. Margaret Ann married John Trever or Trevor, shoemaker, in Edinburgh in 1896. Margaret Ann Masterton belongs to the large group of Mastertons that flourished in the Newburgh area. EDINBURGH WOMAN'S DEATH FROM INJURIES

As a result of injuries received when she was knocked down by a pedal cycle in Lothian Road at Castle Terrace, Edinburgh, on December 5, Margaret Ann Masterton or Trevor (70), 10 Leslie Place, Edinburgh, died at the Eastern General Hospital yesterday. Following the accident, she was conveyed in the first instance to the Royal Infirmary, and was later removed to the Hospital.
