Abram Masterton was convicted of having more than a gallon of excisable liquor in his possession in 1870.

Genealogy

Abram Masterton was the second son of David Masterton, weaver, and Mary Boath, his second wife. He married Elizabeth Ellis in 1863, probably the same Elizabeth Ellice (sic) whom he had assaulted the year before. He is one of the group of Mastertons from the Forfar, Dundee and Arbroath area. FORFAR.

A COWARDLY ASSAULT.- At the Police Court on Monday. Abram Masterton weaver, Horsewater Wynd, was charged before Bailie Anderson with assaulting Elizabeth Ellice, weaver, Forfar by striking her several blows on the head, and pushing her on the 23rd June last. He pled guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine of 7s 6d or in default to suffer ten days imprisonment.

FORFAR.

ANOTHER SHEBEEN CASE.- On Monday, at the Burgh Court, Abram Masterton, a small shopkeeper, residing in Watt Street, was convicted of having in his possession a quantity of excisable liquors exceeding one gallon, on the 26th or 27th November, on his own confession, and was fined therefore £2 of modified penalty, or failing immediate payment 30 days imprisonment.
